the beltway all the way into the city. that's a look at your traffic. megan and charlie, over to you. >>> it is still a busy travel season. some people are trying to get home after being away for christmas. others are heading out of town for new year's. now if you have somewhere to go by plane there's a chance the flight is delayed or canceled as a result of this treacherous weather. now it happens on airlines. they will automatically rebook you to the next available flight. but because of all the weather delays, the next flight could be days away. there are a few things you can now do to increase your odds of getting on a flight. if you're unhappy with the rebooked flight, get in line. talk to a customer service rep to see if it can be changed. you can also call the airline directly or even send a tweet. you may want to consider buying a one day pass to an airline lounge and airlines usually staff lounges with some of the best ticket agents who are able to maybe find you a seat a bit faster. >>> news time right now 5:32. you vote today expand gambling back in november and today part

. >>> good wednesday morning, i'm megan pringle. >> i'm charley crowson. here are a few of your top stories today. a police officer is involved in a deadly shooting in carroll county. police say they were called to tawnytown for a report of a man smashing the windows of a truck with a hammer. when they arrived, they asked the man to put the hammer down, but they kept walking toward him. that's when one officer fired, reportedly hitting the man. he's been identified as 26-year- old edward becker. >>> in glen burnie a man is dead. he was shot while break breaking into a business. he broke into the arundel coin shop on sunday morning. he was fighting with an quee and that's when he was shot. medics pronounced him dead at the scene. that case still under investigation. >>> time for a check of the forecast. things could get messy out there, here's meteorologist mike masso. >> notice on maryland's most powerful radar showing the flurries developing from annapolis, all of anne arundel county down towards buoy and this is pushing to the north, right along i-95 during the course of your day today.

at barnes & noble. >>> good thursday morning, i'm megan pringle. >> and i'm charlie crowson. the mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son is out of the hospital and now in police custody. nicole fitzgerald faces a number of charges including first and second degree murder as well as child abuse. last sunday police found her son with a stab wound to the neck. fitzgerald was taken to the hospital and treated for cuts to her own neck. her hearing is scheduled for next month. >>> a man the dead this morning after a fire broke out in his ohm. it was out on sweet air road in jacksonville actually the baldwin area earlier this morning. no fire hydrants near the and the water was shuttled in. the fire is still being investigated and we'll keep you posted. >>> things there are changing outside lynette. >> it is cold out there this morning charlie but look at all the sunshine we're receiving the morning. and in annapolis a beautiful sunrise. you can see over the severn river and we are going to continue with some cold temperatures. 33 degrees right now. those winds out of the north at about 1
. megan mcgrath is at the ellipse with a preview of the big ceremony. >> you can see the tree over my shoulder here. it's all decorateding the lights are on, but of course it hasn't been lit yet. they won't be doing that until shortly after 5:00 tonight. this is the 90th annual lighting of the christmas tree, a tradition that was started in 1903. the video that you're seeing here, this was actually from last year's tree lighting. this year, though, folks can expect a few different things. we've got a couple changes here. first of all, the stage has been changed and the location of the stage has been changed as well. they basically shifted it 90 degrees. so you've got this really pretty backdrop now. you've got the tree immediately to the left of the stage and then to the left of that, you have the white house itself, which of course during the time of the big event tonight will be all lit up. so very beautiful backdrop here. also, the host this year is actor neil patrick harris. and we've got a star-studded lineup. what can we expect in terms of musical performances? take a listen. >>

understand how that happens. >> reporter: it was 7:30 when megan says her water broke. the contractions were a minute and a half apart as she and her husband hit the road from their 25-mile drive from their home. >> when we got to naperville road i told him there was a foot hanging o out and he didn't believe me and i reached and there was toes. >> reporter: it was going to be a breech birth. chad pulled off, their 21-month- old daughter ava was in the backseat of mom. macy was born in minutes but she wasn't in the clear. >> the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck twice. training just kicked in. >> reporter: macy wasn't breathing and so chad laid her down on the shoulder of the expressway. >> i had to imp vise in removing the mucous from the airway and i had to do that by mouth. >> when she started breathing were both like she's breathing, it was like this elation. >> reporter: soon an ambulance arrived to take the family to good samaritan hospital where megan and macy are doing just fine. >> this is the best gift i got this christmas without a doubt. >> reporter: it's breathtaking, i
